Her Eminence Jetsün Sangay Khandro Rinpoche was born as Juna Maya Thing, the third child of Bisham Bahadur Thing and Sun Maya Tamang, in Solithum Ghayatar of the Makwanpur District of Nepal in 1996. She endured a challenging upbringing in an impoverished family during her childhood but exhibited an early interest in spiritual pursuits.

Recognized by H.E. Kyabje Drukpa Rinpoche, who was the root teacher of Jetsünma, as the reincarnation of Tashi Tseringma, known as the goddess of longevity in Tibetan Buddhism, Khandro Rinpoche was bestowed the name Sangay Khandro by Kyabje Drukpa Rinpoche. This recognition occurred in the year 2014. In 2018, Khandro Rinpoche was ordained as a nun, receiving official approval in the form of a recommendation letter and being enthroned by Kyabje Drukpa Rinpoche.

Under the guidance of Lama Urgyen, brother of Kyabje Drukpa Rinpoche, Khandro Rinpoche pursued her studies in Buddhism, subsequently joining the Dzongsar Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö Institute in 2016 in Himachal Pradesh, India. She spent three years there, delving into Buddhist teachings and receiving numerous transmissions on remé.

Currently, Khandro Rinpoche is pursuing a Bachelor in Education degree alongside her Buddhist studies. She is also the founder and spiritual director of the Maitriya Dharma Light Centre for Expansion of Buddhist Education, situated at Durga Mandir, Kapan. This non-profit religious organization has undertaken various religious and social activities, including the successful completion of the 18 days 10 crore Vajraguru puja ceremony.

With the aim of propagating Buddhism and its philosophy, the organization operates a translation committee dedicated to translating Tibetan philosophical texts into Nepali. Notable translations include Nyungnéy Sadhana Labh Tatha Anubhuti Baran(2080), Paramitayan Ko Marga Sadhana(2080), Samagra Dharmapal Sanchipta BaliBidhi" (2080), andJin Putra Haruko Aacharan - 37 Practices of Bodhisattvas (2080).
